Heaton Park Synagogue Incident: A Casualty Appears to Have Been Fired Upon by Officers
In a devastating development, a victims lost during the Heaton Park synagogue attack is believed to have been fatally wounded by law enforcement personnel.
Official Statement Reveals Firearm Injury
The chief constable of Greater Manchester Police stated that a forensic expert has initially concluded the victim succumbed to a bullet injury.
“We sought guidance overnight from the Home Office pathologist ahead of detailed autopsies set to occur later today. The expert indicated that he has provisionally determined one of the deceased victims would appear to have suffered a wound matching a firearm wound.”
Attacker Information
The suspect, Jihad al-Shamie, was not carrying a gun, and the only shots fired were by the police officers on site.
Authorities think the victim was part of the group positioned at the entrance seeking to prevent the attacker from gaining entry.
Consequences of Police Action
“It follows therefore that subject to further forensic examination, the wound was unfortunately incurred as a unintended and heartbreaking result of the urgently required action taken by our personnel to bring this vicious attack to an end.”
Victims Identified
The two victims who lost their lives at Heaton Park synagogue located in Manchester earlier this week had been named as 53-year-old Adrian Daulby and Melvin Cravitz, 66 years old.
The men lost their lives when a car was used to ram into the grounds of the local Jewish place of worship, then stabbed worshippers in a six-minute rampage that ended only when police with firearms shot at him twice, killing him near the synagogue entrance.
Further Harm
Three more people sustained major injuries in the violent act on the Day of Atonement, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar.
Watson said, “We have also been advised that one of the three victims now hospitalized sustained a firearm injury, which is mercifully not life threatening. Officials think the two individuals were close together at the entrance, as attendees showed courage to prevent the attacker from getting inside.”

Attacker Profile
Authorities identified the perpetrator as the individual, thirty-five, a UK national of Syrian origin.
Greater Manchester police reported that three additional individuals – two male suspects and a woman in her 60s – had been detained “for alleged involvement in planning of acts of terrorism”.
